Pet food recalls. That phrase sends chills down the spines of we pet owners, and a scurrying to find out what brand, and which product within that brand is being recalled.
I held my breath when the first pet food recall took place; we had 15 cats at the time: 11 indoor-only cats, 3 indoor-outdoor tamed ferals, and one outdoor feral who will permit a little petting. Every kitty has been spay/neutered. Indoor/outdoor guys range in age from 1 year, to 6 years. Indoor kitties range from 1 year to 20 (!) years old. Our oldest cat, a Russian Blue named Gray, is so old, he has lost a lot of his hair on his back, and we have a half-dozen sweaters of varying weights to keep him comfortable throughout the entire year. He sometimes goes in a room and forgets why he went in, and turns around and goes out, with a perplexed expression on his face. We love this sweet old man kitty, he is our baby. We were so relieved when we found out that Friskies dry Seafood Sensations were not on the list.
We now have only one less cat, an indoor kitty that passed away of old age. (Not Gray! He is like the Energizer Bunny, he keeps going, and going and ......)
For years, we have always fed Del Monte's Pounce Crunchy Treats, and all our cats have absolutely loved the Catnip flavor. With this many cats, we go through sometimes more than a package a day, many times, close to two packages a day! Imagine my surprise, when on this website, I saw that some of Del Monte Pet Products have been recalled! We have used these treats for years. And, for even longer than that, the name Del Monte has meant quality products. Maybe you paid a little more for Del Monte, but you could always count on the higher quality of Del Monte products.
We just fed Del Monte's Pounce Crunchy Treats to several of our kitties, this evening. Of course, we will withhold all treats until we can find out for sure, that they are safe. Our family has used Del Monte products for four generations. I trust Del Monte, and I am certain that Del Monte will clear up any problems with any of their products.
I believe that we can expect consistent quality, from a brand that has given us consistent quality in the past. I am not discounting a brand that for three generations, my family has found to be superior, to any other brand on the market. Del Monte has always, ALWAYS, spelled quality for our family. Although I am not going to feed Del Monte products until the final word is in, I am reserving judgement, until we do know for sure. And, at that point, I am sure Del Monte will have taken measures to correct the situation, and get tainted products off the shelves.
