Christmas day is just another day.In every city, in every community, there are those who have long forgotten the joy of sharing the Christmas spirit. Christmas carols and songs are silenced in these hearts. They are alone at Christmas.
A lonely lamp sits sadly at the corner where a Christmas tree once stood glittering brightly with colored lights, adorned with
tinsels and trinkets with wrapped presents underneath and around it. The sound of silence pervades the air on Christmas Eve.
The room awakens to the winter chill on Christmas morning.
Amid the frenzy of Christmas preparations, from shopping to decorating to baking to wrapping gifts and other activities
that's part of the season's spirit, there are many who are oblivious to Christmas. The joys and cheers of the season mean nothing. They come from all walks of life.
Amongst us are members of society who may have been part of the crowd at one time, lost in the frenzy of the Christmas spirit.
But that was a long time ago. Family members and friends are gone. Health and mobility have deteriorated. Despite an effort to
bring on some cheer, there's that feeling of emptiness. Watching the frenzy of the season on television brings a tear or two.
There are others who avoid the spirit and cheer of the season. It may be due to some religious beliefs or were never brought
up to appreciate the joy of the season. Christmas day is just another day. They can not understand what the hoopla is all about.
It's just another day, wake up to the same routine, tread the same path and face up to the same problems and stress. Why bother with a momentary escape from these? Why add more burden to an already burdened life?
Christmas is a sad time for the less fortunate. They mingle with the crowd, they may find delight at the decorations that almost
every house flaunts on their front lawns and windows. The Christmas lights are a sight to behold. A day in any shopping mall during the season can be dizzying. But, for the less fortunate, they only feel the emptiness and deprivation of poverty.
There are others who face a sad season for different reasons. Times change. So do circumstances. Some families grow together,
but the time comes when the next generation has to move on. Distance, mobility, finances and health issues can hinder the
cohesiveness of family and friends. Add to this animosity and differences. When discord or separation happens during the
year, Christmas heightens the feelings of desolation and loneliness.
Death can dampen the spirit
