Clothes: Inventing new styles

Couture fashion is supposed to be exciting, break boundaries, be something one wouldn't normally be seen wearing on the street. Why is that? Why can'twe take something straight off the runway and wear it in our everyday lives? Some argue that it is unpractical or would make the wearer look ridiculous but if fashion is constantly pushing the envelope, shouldn't wearing couture daily be accepted or even encouraged by the fashionistas of the world? Wouldn't wearing couture in every day life be, in a sense, inventing a new style?

It seems as if we live in a society where trends come and go, but these trends, while making their short-lived debuts, are done to death. The fact that originality is lacking in many people's wardrobes today is quite disheartening. Lately it seems as if there are certain rules one must follow when choosing clothes from a store. What is the most practical item in the store that can be worn on multiple occasions? Or even worse, what is "in style"? The worst of all being buying the entire outfit that is displayed on the mannequin in the store window.
Innovation is one of the key aspects of couture fashion. It would seem only natural for somebody to want to dress differently from his or her peers, though of course doing so if it would be received in a positive way. This is usually not the case. People like to shop at the same stores. It is important to note that though couture fashion is very shocking, it is hardly ever received negatively. It is over the top, sure, but many people would love to be the center of attention and wear clothing that would allow them to be the night's showstopper. By bringing couture to the masses, it would breathe the life as well as the vision into fashion that has been missing for some time.
The question of money could possibly be brought up as a counter argument. It would be sensible to think that if couture were to be made for the everyday person to purchase, these one of a kind pieces would most likely cost a pretty penny. Though this does cause some concern, it would be like purchasing a good designer bag or a nice pair of shoes. These couture fashions could be saved for special occasions or be worn every once in a while. Just the fact that couture fashion would be available for purchase and not necessarily gawked at if somebody were to wear it on the street would be considered progress.
It would be safe to assume that couture fashion would probably first be worn in the big cities known for being fashion capitals of the world and then work their way into the masses. As for the practicality aspect of these types of fashions, I am not suggesting that they be worn to the mall or even to local restaurants. Perhaps they would work in an office setting or even for a pleasant night out on the town. It would be nice knowing that one could look polished and fashionable while being creative and not worrying if somebody else is going to show up wearing the same thing.Though it is true that a fashionista will wear whatever she wants no matter what the trend is, there are too many people out there who do not care about what they wear. Trends are meant to be broken and that being different when it comes to wearing clothes can make one the trend-setter. Fashion is an art and should be treated as such. The clothes we put on our bodies reflect who we are as people and we do not want to be seen as unimaginative followers. Break free of the mold and the next time you are going to put something on but decide against it because it is too "over the top", go ahead and wear it in the name of fashion.
