Downloadable game review: Fishco, by Fugazo, Inc.

There is nothing really special about Fish co in any way. This is yet another regurgitation of a pet game. You feed, breed, take care of the sick, make fish happy with homey decorations, clean the aquarium, and make sure the omnivore fish don't end up eating the smaller fish by placing them in separate tanks. Been there, done that, but yet it's still oodles of fun.

Just because a game isn't unique, that doesn't mean it's not worth looking at. Taking care of multiple fish at once and trying to reach a goal under a time limit can be challenging and entertaining. Since each level is rather short, and loads very quickly, this is a great game to pass your time with. Even under relaxed mode, where you can take your time, the fun of keeping your fish alive long enough to sell them will bring you entertainment.
The game runs with few glitches to speak of. Animation is quick; the menu is very easy to get used to; the tutorial is instinctive; having multiple fishes will not hinder the game's ability to run under a decent computer. However there is one little design flaw there isn't a clear way to exit Sandbox mode. No "back" button. Even pressing just about every key on your keyboard won't get you out without doing a forced quit of the game. If there is a natural way out, it's never mentioned or made clear.
The graphics are beautiful beyond reason. Each fish and aquarium item is rendered to a detailed, glossy CG look that seems professional enough to belong to a full-price game. Even the bubbles that appear as a transition to a new level give a certain charm. The only downside is that the before-game scenes, when you are told your new goals, are bland in comparison. Also, having the ability to show your prized fish tank (the Sandbox) as a screensaver will beautify your screen while you're on a computer break.
If you're hoping the beautiful fish will be accompanied by equally amazing sound, you're out of luck. While the music is definitely not bad, and actually at first it sounds really deep and memorable, after a few minutes it loses all its charm. It'll just become a nice extra something to have, but it won't really be worth listening to.

This game may not be the next revolution since it completely lacks innovation; however everything it sets out to do, it does it well. Fans of Dash-type games will find a home in the Action mode, while fans of Simulation-type games will yearn more for the Relaxation mode. Even those who want to just run an aquarium, without having any goals or levels, will have an opportunity for fun in the Sandbox. Accompanied by 40 levels, beautiful graphics, acceptable music, and few glitches to speak of, this is an average but reliable and price worthy game for the aforementioned gamers.
