American voters should keep in mind that the election campaign process is much like the "courting" phase of dating. The candidates will make promises and put forth their best effort to "woo" the voters. However, anyone who has been married knows that how one acts during that phase is not necessarily how one will act after the marriage vows have been spoken.

There is no doubt that Obama is a skilled speaker and offers up some very attractive promises. But should we "marry" him after a whirlwind romance? McCain, on the other hand, is like the childhood sweetheart. He may not be as exciting. We know him too well for him to be exciting and fresh. But he has been thoroughly vetted and we can trust that "what you see is what you'll get".

It is highly likely that our Congress will look much like it does now with the addition of even more Democratic Congressmen. We need a president that will act as the checks and balances needed in government. McCain is the man for that job. He is someone who is hated by some Republicans and loved by some Democrats, a fact that elevates his standing in my opinion. I am a moderate Republican. If truth be told, I believe that most Americans are moderates, that they believe neither party has a corner on good policies and ideas. I believe that most Americans want neither a far right or far left administration. They would prefer something in the middle, a humanitarian government that respects the individual citizen's rights to determine their futures and to keep as much of the fruits of their labor as possible. This is the balance that we must achieve in order to preserve our freedoms and opportunities.

Older voters know very well that what is promised during an election campaign is not necessarily what is delivered. One can't base the voting decision upon promises. One must look at the candidate's history in order to predict the likely outcome and future behavior of a candidate. McCain has a long history. Obama has a short one. McCain has already demonstrated fiscal responsibility and good decision making. Obama hasn't served in the Senate long enough for us to determine whether or not he has these qualities.

McCain is a man that our enemies will fear and respect. Obama has not been tested in that department. McCain will keep our military strong. Obama will likely reduce military spending and decrease the strength of our military. McCain will increase the morale of our troops and bring them home with victory. Obama calls their mission a terrible
