If you like those old arcade style games, Qwak will be right up your alley. Qwak will remind you of Pac-Man or some of the old Nintendo arcade games.
As a duck, it is your task to navigate each level to get the keys to the level exit while killing bad guys with eggs, and gathering as many points as possible before you can advance. In each level you are faced with a couple of different monster type enemies and switches that lead you around the screen until you can grab the key. Points come in the form of falling fruit, gems and some unidentified items. You can also pick up special items that give you body armor or a high jump. While it will most likely get old after a while, it is easy to get caught up in it and quickly burn through a hour or so of time. While it does have a feature that lets you play simultaneously with a friend, you will have to manage a way to both use the same keyboard in order to do so.
The Breakdown
Game play is decent, following a paint-by-number format of any old arcade game. One nice thing about the game is you will only have to memorize five keys to be able to control all the actions of your character and you can customize which keys you want those to be. Using only five keys is nice as it lets you move around the screen fairly easily, and in this game you will have to use all five keys a lot as the game play does move faster as you advance in the levels.
Graphics are decent for a game of this style and format. As mentioned earlier, it is designed to look and play like an older style arcade game which it manages to pull off flawlessly. The sound quality is good and the game music closely follows the style in which the game was designed. It may start to get monotonous after a while, in which case you can go back to the main menu and fix the volume of the in-game sounds or the music as you see fit.
All in all, Qwak is a decent game and anyone who likes these types of arcade games will probably enjoy playing it. As far as replay value, only those who really like this style of game will want to play it over and over again, and even then there are better games out there.
