Here are several steps to consider taking before you purchase a new home:

-Create a budget. Find out how much money you need monthly for necessities. Then figure in what you will need once you are paying utilities.

-Research neighborhoods. After visiting different areas, decide which neighborhood you would like to being viewing houses in. This will limit the amount of time spent visiting houses you would not normally consider.

-Research landscaping. If you are interested in purchasing a home with the intention of creating a new landscape, shop around to different landscape companies for the best prices before you begin. Also research any zoning laws that will apply to the plans you have in mind. Being prepared with information may save you money in the long run.

-Research school systems. Even if you don't have children now, you should consider the resale value of your home in relation to the local school system. Just because it's not important to you now, doesn't mean it won't be later to you or the next buyer.
