Poetry: The game of love

by Violet Scott

Created on: October 30, 2008

So, play me, the then, with all your charms,

take me into loving arms.

Like a raven's nest, a home you gave

and like winter storm,

you rip away.

So while creators dabble

in conspiracy

and you run amok,

with your fantasies,

while through the looking glass, I peer,

And such disconcerting sounds I hear

like the silence of hesitation

and a catch in your throat

as you echo back 'I love you'.

and just like that, you pull me

back down, through the maze again

I've already done this a time or two

what's one more if it's at least with you?

I remember you droning on and on

how there's always a right time

I ask you over and over

where's mine?

Still, there's always one more thing to do

a beheading for me, and tea for you.

There's always one more character to meet

always one more place to go

before I can scramble up to my feet

and scurry out of this rabbit hole.
