Poetry: I can't reach you

by Cheryl Burger

Created on: October 30, 2008

I have always held you close to me, so why have you distanced your love from me?

You were the only one that was born out of love, and we devoted our lives for thee.

You tell me that you gave me six beautiful grandkids, in fact you have,

however, I can not hold them, or read to them, or have tea parties or play ball with them.

I see them once as the infants they are, and then the next time I see them, they are in Kindergarten!

The military was the deciding factor, so now that daddy is no longer an Army Ranger,

why are you still keeping a distance so far, and one that keeps my heart sadden every hour?

You know how much we love you ,and those you have shared, but darling daughter I can not change

what God and I have decided in my earlier years.

Please, before I am attacked by cancer again, allow my grandkids to come home and be with us again.

I beg you daughter, for no mother has been kinder, no father ever more devoted, so why,.... oh why

are you being so mean, and distanced for the love we have and want you to devour?

Your children have given us a brand new name, and it is the best meaning, the "grand"est yet.

When we are with you my heart is so happy, it makes me want to stay and be a part of your life.

My malady has made me a weak old woman, and daddy a person with integrity, as he stays with me.

So why my beautiful daughter do you stay so far away from us?

A distance that is not just miles, but lacking hugs, and kisses and lots of smiles.

No matter what or where I rest, I ask my God to take care of you for me,

I know that my love of the Father is my only solace and time will tell

just how much you have meant to us and over these miles.....we love you dear,

and miss you more, a distance of heart, and one of many miles and forgotten desires!

Please come home before I must leave, and meet My Heavenly Father, oh please?

All I can say is thank goodness love covers the miles, and thoughts and memories

allow us some pleasures that we must count on in our final days and hours!

We love you honey and pray you know this, for no other parents gave you more than we.

I reach out and try to touch you, and then the cat hollars, and wakes me from my dreams

as I try harder to touch your little hand and how wonderful it made me feel, like the mother I am!

I love you Darling, and reach out to me and to daddy, he also would like some hugs too from his Scoots,

and when I say the very word, his azure eyes water like rain on a pane, full as they think back, the same as me.

Love, your Ma-ma
