The Olive Branch
There were a few peaking out,
They were mostly yellow
And orange from what I
Could see between the puffs
Of gray and white.
The beams of orange
Went on a search
While the puffs became misty eyed.
They both touched and formed
A rainbow of blue, purple,
Red and yellow.
I grabbed a loose branch of leaves
So the mist wouldn't get me.
The branch was new fallen
With its leaves just turning
Into that deep olive green.
A caterpillar appears
To say hi from the leaves.
It's beginning to stream now
Instead of mist.
A feeling of peace came over me.
I soaked in all of the beauty.
For that moment, I knew
I was not alone.
He will always be there.
He is as constant as this rain.
The caterpillar jumps up
On its hinds as if to agree.
The caterpillar knows
We are equals with His love.
And when this day is long,
Forgotten by us both,
That branch and that day
Will still be a memory.
It's been years since
I thought of that day.
I just wish I could
Get back the smell of April.
It's been too long since
I splashed in puddles.

Truth be told there is a love so immense
