Sitting in a brand new car you can smell the freshness and it's what we all want to buy, but when you consider you can buy the same type car " used " one year later and save as much as up to 30% it now becomes emotions VS logic.
If you have a heavy wallet there is no question buying brand new is the way to go, on the other hand a well maintained used car that's less than 4 years old will give you the same satisfaction as a new car for about half the price.
Your very first step buying new or used you must ask yourself (with pen and Paper), "Which manufacturers, size, models, makes and equipment fit my budget? And what options are a MUST?" If you enter a Superstore with a huge selection, your emotions could take over and you're then shopping for things like appearance, style, color, etc.. rather than the things you need.
Here is a True Story why you Must be prepared entering a Car lot
A few years ago, a good friend of mine went shopping for a vehicle. He needed space for 3 adults, but his emotions overruled logic and bought a Mustang.
To this day, he still talks about how he loved that Mustang but also to this day, his mother-in law hates him more than ever for having had cramps due to no leg room in the rear seat, she can barely walk today and blames it on him " guy's " if your mother-in-law adores you, your wife will also love you almost unconditionally! So do a little homework and know what your needs really are when shopping for a vehicle.
The subject line of this article can branch out to where I could write a book, I have covered only what I consider the very first step in the buying process with vehicle being new or used.
Following steps in sequence to consider if your buying used
2) TEST DRIVE...know what to look for
3) SCRATCHES & DENTS...must be on worksheet
4) SERVICE RECORDS...dealer must supply or you walk
5) ACCIDENT...you inspect, and dealer must provide report
6) TAKE TO MECHANIC...subject to, on bill of sale
7) HOW MUCH INSURANCE...make quick call, or deal subject to
8) NEGOTIATE # 1...understand the tactics salespeople use
9) NEGOTIATE # 2...on bill of sale, dents , scratches , extra keys owner's manual
10) WARRANTIES & BUSINESS OFFICE...It's a cash cow - hang on to your wallet
Buying brand new is an easy task compared to buying used as you can compare dealer prices and buying with no fear as you will be fully covered from 3 to 5 years subject to miles, however to get a fair deal you still must study the buying process.
