Only one event in my mind stands out above all else. The continuance of the Social Security system. It was designed to help in a time of Depression, brought on by the crash of stocks that brought America to it's knees. It's purpose, while a good implement of the past, doesn't work today. The money that went into the system from the beginning, was tainted with hands constantly dipping into the funds to help other troubled areas of the economy. Resulting in another growing debt to the taxpayer. What was promised to be money set aside for retirement, has grown and now, this generation pays for the lasts Benefits.
Furthermore, it has caused a strong reliance for Americans to look to it as an oasis in their latter years of life. Twisted by the politicians to receive votes come election time, yet leaves the receiver of those benefits, poor and contained within a fixed income that cannot support the tightest of wallets. It is a failed system that the government needs to repay to the people, not another tax that politicians can gain interest from, to pay themselves while telling the taxpayer how he's going to spend their money.
Reformation? No, what is needed is the elimination of wasteful spending. I don't have much set aside for retirement, but I want control over where that money goes, how much I can get, and when I can draw it out. I don't need a person, who never did anything but smile in front of a camera and promise lies, while boasting of all the things he's said he has done for me, to also have control over me and my families personal welfare. If we did away with the system, it would be a shock at first. Just think about the next generation to come........... They won't look for something that was never there.
Welfare wouldn't exist and people would try harder to get a job or some may discover, they can start their own business. The whole dependence on the government for financial gains would be gone. Then maybe we'd vote more for those that make us an independent nation once again, rather than a dependant nation as we are today. That's where the citizens of America lost that Independence, and we reverted back to looking for our leaders to tell us what to do with our lives, and very few today do think independently. The ones who do, are usually very successful. Dependence on leaders are our failure. That is why the Declaration Of Independence was lettered towards freedom, not towards seperate political parties that fight instead of coming together. Freedom from government control. Freedom to speak. Freedom to enjoy what you own without high taxes, forever, on that property. That's why it was written, and I stand with the patriots, not political agendas. Social Security hurt us, it's just "advertised" so much by the media, as a need we must have to survive. It's an invisible shackle on us all.
