Poetry: Despair

Price We Pay

I'm alone and listening to the songs within my head,

Images flying past the screen inside.

My mind's eye twitches from lack of use,

Butterfly wings fluttering on a dusty windowceil.

Sometimes when I'm locked inside, I tremble

Just a bit. I'm longing for a dream and

Hoping for a truth,

But lies are like candy we give ourselves to eat.

Creativity comes at a price and goes for the same -

We're always hoping for something to numb that inner pain.

It's only then we realize -

This is the price we pay.
