Poetry: Without a word

by Elena Ryder

Created on: October 30, 2008

storm the night
and let all the rain pour out
this old roof can take it
we aren't sweet talkers
who melt at the first drops of rain
love doesn't mind laughing
you off the stage
it loves you anyway
like lightning that knows
just where to strike
somehow we manage to crawl
out of the earth and into the sky
and we like it
like two trees that breathe
right into the clouds
we never lose sight
of how deep our roots go
a simple shaft of light
can slip up behind a rainbow
like some terrific new color
pouring from the inside
where silence is better
than any explanation
