The end of the American empire: An historical perspective

by Thomas Knepper

Created on: October 30, 2008

There are many things that lead to the collapse of an empire. America has been a great country for many years but we are now on the verge of collapse because of three important occurrences which have always spelled the doom of dominant nations throughout history. Many countries have collapsed because of internal corruption prompted and allowed by a propaganda machine which claims to be a media, we have this. Many have collapsed because of outside threats and an inability to form a unified front against external enemies, which we can see in America. And many have collapsed because of a move away from democracy and freedom and towards tighter control and a socialist type economy, we are on this track as well. These three things combined spell a quick doom for America, not to mention that the average life span of a great empire is 200 years, and America, as a world power, is right around that life expectancy.

If you look at the history of great empires, many began with good morals and a lack of corruption and that is what allowed them to become great. But, as with individuals, as the empire grew those in charge naturally began to lose their morals, became more greedy and thus caused the empire to implode. In Rome, when you look at the decline, it was largely caused by good leaders, whom had good morals, being replaced by self indulgent emperors who used the countries riches for their own well being. Sound familiar? Enron, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac? The democrats, who are largely to blame for this financial crisis, were lining their pockets with money as they watched the mortgage giants go belly up. Senator Dodd is one such man. This internal looting has caused a massive upheaval in our economy and has thus weakened America's once trusted economic system. Our once country loving, God fearing leaders, have been replaced by self indulgent, morally shallow people who are taking the countries money for their own good.

And these leaders have no one to answer too. The media is on board with these liberal leaders. They think they know better then the average person and as such need to be in complete control. Without accountability, these corrupt leaders line their pockets and then point the finger elsewhere, and the media follows suit by putting the blame on the scapegoat. Can you think back to other countries that found a scapegoat (such as Bush has been for the media)? Russia, Germany, Italy? Look at how the media tranformed in these countries and how they supported the
