In the early morning hours of November 25, 2006 an outrageous injustice occurred in the city of Queens, New York. A young man by the name of Sean Bell was celebrating a monumental milestone. This night was to be his last night as an official bachelor. Little did he know it would be the final night of his life.
Three police officers were on duty in this area of Queens at the particular time. Officers Michael Oliver age 36, Gescard Isnora 29, and Marc Cooper 40. The names of men who once swore an oath to protect and serve the people of New york. A position that is supposed to be held with honor , and dignity , yet rarely is.
Here is a perfect, yet unnecessarily tragic example of how such a heroic , respectable position can be turned into something evil when you regale COWARDS with weapons and a bit of authority. These men observed Mr. Bell leaving the scene of his bachelor party. Clearly intoxicated, walking alone for a few moments until a few friends caught up with him.
Now, this is were I begin to get confused. According to the statements given by the three officers , Mr. Bell became belligerent when asked where he was going. They also went on to further state that they thought he was possibly reaching for a weapon. Okay. So maybe they were under the impression their lives were in danger for a moment. I'll put that on layaway, and buy it for a little while.
BUT! What I will NEVER comprehend is why these people fired almost FIFTY shots into this innocent young man in the prime of his life. Please? Stop. Think about this. They stood on that street every one of them armed. Every one of them sober. Every one of them coherent. Fired on him. Reloaded. Fired on him. Reloaded. Fired on him...get the picture? Excuse me, but I don't care WHO you are- nobody is going to be a threat to you any longer after you've shot them the first FIFTEEN TIMES!
M. Oliver personally served up 31 shots. G. Isanora, 11 shots. M.Cooper, 4 shots. His name is Sean Bell. A son, brother, partner, father, friend. An actual guy with a job. A solid , normal man about to embark on the first leg of his journey through life as a responsible adult. He was ruthlessly executed, and savagely attacked as if he were some new super-species impervious to bullets. One question: Why?
The answer is obvious, and it disgusts me. Furthermore, as if the cold-blooded fashion of this brutal slaying were not shocking enough... it goes appallingly further. How could this possibly get any worse, you ask? Oh, it can. And it
