Poetry: Walking

by Annette Bromley

WALKING IN AUTUMN

Leaves swish and cackle round my feet;

seems almost that they talk

as they dance and swirl and flit around

during my autumn walk.

I love going out walking

on a warm, sunny autumn day.

The company of leaves and breeze

just blow my blues away;

and oh, the glorious colors,

trees, ground all seem gem crowned

and now and then one crowns me too

as leaves come drifting down.

I walk along the river

where a regatta of golden leaves

sail along the river's wind

on their way to the sea.

I wonder where they're going

and dream of places I'd go too

but I have obligations here

with much I have to do

But for now I've gone out walking

and I climb the pasture gate

and breathe in all the wonders

before it gets too late.

I walk the hills and walk the woods

that will soon be gloom and bare

but for now, this autumn walk,

joy dances in the air.

Leaves swish and cackle round my feet;

seems almost they can talk.

Oh how I love the autumn time

and love an autumn walk.
