The knowledge of nuclear energy and public awareness is an essential factor for the successful propogation of any nuclear programme. This can be done only by educating the public..The atomic energy act of 1962 reduces the public access to any data or informatioin regarding the nuclear energy. We can classify the growth as 1..personalised policy of Bhabha and Nehru(1948-66) 2..regulatory board of Vikram sarabhai (1966-77) 3..Distributive policy of Sethna and Mrs.Gandhi But to put it across in simple words,the people who are ruling the roost must be enlightened about the nuclear energy and its consequences.. The best form of defense is offense,they say but discretion is better part of valour so far as nuclear power is concerned..Therewas lot of criticism behind the may18th episode 1974 episode which came as a reply to the seventh fleet threat from President Nixon which paradoxically did to Nuclear technology debacle..After the second Pokhran explosion, the situation had gone from bad to worse.. Leaving the political side of this whole issue,let us look at it from the scientific point of view..are we safe with nuclear power? Are we using the energy for peaceful purposes?Is there public awareness among common man as to what will be the aftermath of nuclear explosion,if two conflicting nations ready to press the nuclear button,as they did in the kargil.Another Hiroshima and nagasaki incident...What cost we pay for this sort of nuclear defense..We are all not cockroaches to wage a nuclear war. Ou country has Naroroa,Rawal bhatta,tarapur,and Kalpakkam power plants in operation..There are reactors to come after this treaty which is signed by our Primeminister.Though one cannot resist the 200Mev energy generation,how many of these power plants critical and used for electric power generation.The very important problem here in India is they say that all our electric networks are complicated..The energy generation from uranium has become outdated and generation of power thro'plutonium is the latest trend which is more dangerous..the uranium sources all over the world are depleting and Nuclear energy remains still a non-renewable source of energy.. Nearly 2,561 crores of Governmetn money is pooled into this infrastructure development in FBTR kalpakkam,Madras..But the question still remains why Chennai township electricity consumption is only from Ramagondam and not from Kalpakkam. the city suffers from chronic load shedding..The status of rest of the power plants all over
