The Power of Prayer to Heal
I KNOW that prayer to God for healing works, but it also demands our attention when we AREN'T healed! What happens when you keep on asking to be healed, and the healing doesn't come?
I've experienced some of the greatest times with God, right where I am-UNHEALED! I've felt closer to Him than most people even dream of feeling throughout my experiences. Although it is mind-boggling what all I've come through, my heart still goes out to the millions who aren't healed, for whatever reason.
I'm living proof of the fact that prayer is an essential part of my healing and so is the story of my life! I've had three major strokes, meaning I couldn't even breathe on my own, many broken bones, most of my intestines removed, and yet I still function as a normal human being.
We went to Wal-mart today and on the way into the store, I was hoping that I would be able to get to ride in one of those automatic wheelchairs. When we got into Wal-mart, I saw an older lady on crutches with her leg amputated just above the knee! So, I just grabbed the nearest cart and went limping away to do my shopping, very ashamed of myself.
Why was that woman there at the store the same time I was there? I think it was to humble me, because I could walk, with the aid of the shopping cart, and she couldn't even attempt to try to walk. I walked on into the store a different person after seeing that lady with only one leg!
Was I humbled? You'd better believe it!
I've been healed, and it is a wonderful. joyful, and exhilerating experience. In fact, after my biggest stroke, I helped illustrate a children's book that stayed on the best-seller list for several years! So, the healing I understand-it's when you DON'T get healed that I have trouble.
I still have problems with my right side, my right leg is about two inches shorter than my left, and I can't walk without some assistance. Why was that part left out of my healing this time? I think I know the answer.
As I walked away from the woman with the crutches, I kept asking myself, "Why wasn't I healed? Did I ask wrong, or at the wrong time?"
The Bible speaks a lot about healing, and Jesus healed when He was here. The woman who had the issue of blood, sought to touch only the hem of Jesus' garment, and she found healing there. The Apostle Peter said to the man who was born lame and lay at the gate of the temple, "Silver and gold have I none, but in the name of Jesus Christ, rise up and walk!" He did just that-he walked! In Acts, it says, "that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them," so the people brought the sick and lame into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, and they were healed.
If there is a lesson to be learned here, my guess is that I don't have the FAITH! It takes faith to be healed. I may be just the average citizen, but when it comes to faith, I'm sadly lacking.
In Acts 14, it says, "The same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had the FAITH to be healed," That's it right there. The man heard Paul speak, had the faith necessary to be healed, so he was healed right on the spot!
I don't have the FAITH necessary to be healed! I can pray and pray until I am blue in the face, but until I garner the faith to take the very first step, it's all in vain. My praying does me no good without the faith.
I am not saying that God doesn't heal. He does. I'm only saying that in this one area, I can't seem to have enough faith to be healed!
