Has bra shopping always been unpleasant for you? It wasn't always such a bad experience for me. I knew I was a C cup, I would go in find one and that would be it. Having children changed all that. Especially when you have one of those children with you when you are shopping for the bra. Anyone who has ever been bra shopping knows that it is not always a pleasant experience. You are always trying to find that right size, the right color and after you have children the right price. You feel like you breast are too small, too big, or just not right in some way. And this bra will fit and look good, but boy look at that price. Imagine shopping for a bra with a 3-year-old male. Yes, that is right a male on a shopping expedition. It was not pleasant at all.
It was a cold Tuesday morning at the local Wal-mart. I was seven months pregnant (with twins, also males) and shopping for a nursing bra with my son. As we circled the racks and picked through the hangers my son talked happily. Most of his talk was just general questions and thoughts. What color is that? When can we go? Can I have a toy? As we moved to the next rack there was a nice elderly lady standing there looking at the bras. She made pleasantries and played to my son for a minute. He was really enjoying the attention so I kept on looking while she was playing with him. Big mistake. When I picked up a bra to look at the size my son promptly turned to the lady, pointed to the bra I was holding and told the lady "that's where boobies go."
Yes, he actually said, "that's where boobies go". Where do kids pick up on these words?
Yes, I was mortified, especially that something like that could come out of my son's mouth. I tried so hard to teach him to be polite. I have never been so embarrassed in all my life. The nice lady was all but rolling on the floor laughing. When she was done laughing and wiping the tears that was running done her face she told me that, that was the best laugh she had, had all week. It was still really, really embarrassing, but I was glad I could bring joy to someone's life. That embarrassing story has also brought joy to my husband, mother, father, and the rest of the family that the story got relayed to. And as my son grows I know one day I will be able to share that story and dozens of others with him and his twin brothers, and God willing his children so that hopefully it can embarrass him just a little.
