There are many ways to lower your electricity bill. You can do this by disconnecting your appliances at night, having good insulation, turning off the lights after use, using energy efficient light bulbs, and making use of solar energy.

DISCONNECT YOUR APPLIANCES

Even after you turn off your appliances it is best you UN-plug them. Why? It is a fact that electricity continues to flow through them even when they are off. This is the largest source of wasted electricity. People often leave there appliances plugged in overnight. This can add up on the monthly bill. So remember to disconnect them before you go to sleep.

CHECK YOUR INSULATION

If you have an attic in your house, go upstairs to make sure the insulation is secure. Having lose insulation can result in lost heat during the winter. Have a professional check your entire house for leaky heat. Also check your doors. Make sure that they are air tight and nothing is coming in. Having good insulation will reduce your electricity bill. Your house will stay warmer during the cooler months.

TURN OFF THE LIGHTS

So many people forget to turn off the lights when they leave a room. Doing this simple action can save you tons of cash. When you walk out of a room, click the switch. That's it. Do not leave lights on for long periods of time. This will add unneccesary money to your bill. Turn off the lights.

USE ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHT BULBS

These light bulbs not only last longer, but use half the amount of electricity as florescent light bulbs. They may be a little more expensive, but they are worth it. They pay you back in saved money. Might I mention it reduces your "carbon footprint"? they are good for the environment.

USE SOLAR ENERGY

Some people get rid of there light bulbs altogether and install solar light glass. This is done by a professional. For people who have high sealing's this works best. They install a hole in the sealing and put a certain type of glass that reflects the suns light back down. This allows them to utilize the suns natural light.

USE ENERGY EFFIECENT APPLIANCES

Purchase energy safe appliances. These machines always that the "Energy Star" label on them. They use half the amount of electricity to operate. Appliances like washer machines and dryers are the ones that can use a lot of energy. With an energy safe washer and dryer you will conserve money on your bill.

TURN OFF THE COMPUTER

We are in the "digital age". People are on the computer more now than ever. People work from one, shop from one and even meet people from one. However, it is important to turn this machine off. Computers require large amounts of electricity to operate. If you leave it on, I promise you your bill will continue to skyrocket. Turn it off after you are done using it.

Overall, there are ways to reduce your energy costs. Turning off the lights, getting energy efficient light bulbs and appliances are some of the ways to do this.
