Your definition of a sin

by Ryan Schreiber

Sin, defined, is an act against God. Though men have a tendency to sin against one another, the message pertains to those who forget and fall away from the Lord. Many individuals in the world today believe that sin corresponds with the breaking of the ten commandments, and this is by no means false. But do the ten commandments apply to man in regards to man; or man in regards to God? That is the question that separates truth from misconception. Thou shall not kill, thou shall not steal, thou shall not commit adultery, thou shall not covet, etc. Were these commandments written for us to follow as moral principles in relation to our fellow man? Sure. But more importantly with God. But then one might ask, how can you steal from God; and better yet how can you commit an act of murder against God? This is where confusion can most certainly come into play. Consider the following and then ponder if you will: You shall not steal with or from the word of God; You shall not commit murder with or from the word of God; You shall not commit adultery with or from the word of God; You shall not covet anything other than the word of God...

For the Word itself is our only connection with the Lord, mediating a reconciliation between man and his Creator (namely Jesus Christ... For the word is Christ...) regardless of what others might say. When one comes to misrepresent and adulterate the Word of God, leading others astray; He most certainly commits sin- an act against God. Please consider the following from Jeremiah chapter 2:

Vs.7: I brought you into a fruitful land to eat its fruit and its good things(His word and the knowledge from within; His doctrine and way of life). But you came and defiled My land, and My inheritance you made an abomination. The priests did not say, "Where is the Lord?" And those who handle the law did not know Me; The rulers also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal and walked after things that did not prophet.

Vs.12,13: "Be appalled, O heavens, at this, and shudder, be very desolate," declares the Lord. For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of Living Waters (The Word), to hew for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Vs.26-32: "As the thief is shamed when he is discovered, so the house of Israel is shamed; They, their kings, their princes and their priests and their prophets, Who say to a tree, 'You are my father,' and to a stone, 'You gave me birth.' For they have turned their back to Me, and not their face; But in the time of their trouble they will say, 'Arise and save us. But where are your gods which you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble; for according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah. "Why do you contend with Me? You have all transgressed against Me," declares the Lord. "In vain I have struck your sons; They accepted no chastening. Your sword has devoured you prophets like a destroying lion. "O generation, heed the word of the Lord. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, or a land of thick darkness? Why do My people say, "We are free to roam; We will no longer come to You?' "Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number...

For this is only one example out of countless within His word that I have used to describe the sins of Modern day Christianity and the numerous false religions that disease the mind and soul of mankind- beasts among the forest just waiting to devour, yet another. For we are all guilty, regardless of what others have said. But to stand fast within His word is to cleanse and purge the falsehood; make atonement for sin; and to reconcile oneself to God...
