LOOKING AHEAD, PRESSING ON
Texts: Luke 9:62; 17:32
Lu:9:62: And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Lu:17:32: Remember Lot's wife.
PRAYER
INTRO: Jesus encouraged His hearers to focus their attention on the work yet to be accomplished. Put your hand to the plow, go forward, & don't look back.
Both of these scriptures are of a serious nature. The first one is dealing with a man who wanted to go home and help bury his father. But Christ abruptly tells him that he who follows Christ must only have one goal and that is to follow Christ.
Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
During our Christmas vacation, my wife's grandfather passed away. And to put myself in the context of this man in Luke 9, it would have been very hard and somewhat rude, if we had not attended the funeral. However, Christians don't worry about death and dying, it is what we hope for. The day when we shall see our Masters face. I know that the valley of the shadow of death if unknown, and the battles that each one of us have to face while be extreme, but the death process and the crossing over is a joyous time.
In Luke 17:32, Christ is talking about what will be happening in the last days. Two will be working and one will be taken. Two will be sleeping and one will be taken. And in this descriptive occasion, there is inserted one three letter verse. Remember Lot's wife.
Everybody here understands the story of Lot's wife. Lot had made some bad decisions and God forewarned him of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. So Lot finally heeding the voice of God gets his family together and heads out of Sodom and Gomorrah. They were free from its bondage. But Lot's wife topping the last hill couldn't resist the temptation to turn back. And immediately turns into a pillar of salt.
Why is this scripture of Luke 17:32 so important. It tells us that no matter how far along our journey we are, we are never completely safe, until we have stepped foot on heaven's golden shore. You can serve Christ your entire life, and allow one little thing to keep you from eternity with Christ.

Ph'p:3:12: Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Ph'p:3:13: Brethren, I
