How to improve your concentration

May I have your attention? If you are finding it is getting harder and harder to stay focused and concentrate, then you are in the same boat with the rest of us. How do we get focused and make is easier to concentrate? This is not an easy task, but there are mechanisms to improve your concentration.

When I walk into my office in the morning and in front of me I see a pile of papers that need to be addressed, I just seem to stare at them. Then there is that computer when I turn it on, has all kinds of emails I need to reply to. Someone walks past my office with a cup of coffee and now I am finding myself wanting a cup of coffee. This little scenerio paints a picture that many can identify with. There are so many distractions and stressors in everyone's life that it is hard to keep focused. There is hope and there are a few tricks of the trade that can help.

There are some common identifiers as to why we cannot concentrate and keep focused. Some of these identifiers if they are addressed can help you to regain focus and concentrate better.

GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP

Are you aware that not getting a good nights sleep can give you symptoms similiar to those that suffer from attention defecit disorder? Lack of sleep can cause forgetfulness and difficulty in maintaining concentration. How many times have you sat in a meeting and can hardly keep your eyes open? Then you have your boss sitting directly across from noticing you are fighting to stay awake.

FOOD

It is not an good idea to go to a meeting or attend a class on a empty stomach. Coffee is not a good choice because it raises your adrenline and quickly increases your attention level but then it quickly goes down hill as the effects of the adreniline increase is wearing off. A better choice would be a bottle of water with an apple and a piece of cheese. This will hydrate you and maintain your blood sugar at a stable level and help you to maintain focus and remain attentive.

STRESS

Did you know when you are stressing out about something that you increase your stress hormones and you ability to concentrate and maintain focus decrease? Keeping a balance of stress so that it does not overtake your ability to concentrate is important factor to improve your concentration. Check out stress reducing techniques that work for you, and apply them to your daily routine. We all have stress, the secret is learning hoiw to keep it balanced.
