Poetry: Catharsis

by Brian Le Lay

Created on: October 25, 2008

[1] Arrive

I observe the wild inhale and exhale,
The natural disorder of cold smoke forming
beyond my brow-decomposing in tundra dusk.
Exhausted lungs exert in agony,
the only purpose for which organs exist.

Societies sigh far withdrawn,
The widowing of warfare
muted by the vast oceanic song.
Solitude-I come along.

[2] Cleanse

I dismiss skin and bones from bosom,
The dreadful temple of my being.
Fingers frigid and thin,
Barrowing beyond the fragile rind
imposed upon me by God.
I remove smoke residue and sediment
from a heart which sleeps.
Mammoth alpine peaks purify me.

[3] Transcend

Locking lips with an open sky,
Celebrating the purity of unpopulated air,
and the sanctification of self.

Solitude-I come along.
Quietude-I embrace your cradlesong.
