Humor: Embarrassing moments

by Hellen Wyeth

Created on: October 24, 2008

Embarrassing moments, hmm, well that shouldn't be hard being a mother and all. My beautiful, smart and for a good majority of the time, polite child has had my face turn red on a number of occasions. Though she seems to save her best for heavily crowded places with no escape possible.

My daughter and I frequently flew country to visit family. With the long distance to travel, we usually had several planes to catch with pleanty of down time in between flights. Halfway through the flying and various airports, of course she is going to begin to get restless and easily irritated. On our second flight out of the three for the day her irritation with those around her were starting to show.

Sitting two seats behind us on the plane are a couple of boys who looked like they just graduated high school. Like teenage boys, they were being louder than needed, speaking profanities and just outright inappropriate. As an adult, I tried to ignor them and focused on entertaining my young daughter. As soon as we were in the air and able to unbuckle, the gloves were off. Before I knew it, she was unbuckled, standing in her seat facing the boys and gives it to em for all to hear. The plane is completely silent except for my 4 year old.

"Can't you guys just SHUT UP? SHEEESH!"

The quiet on the plane lasts for what seems like an eternity. I emediately grab my little girl and sit her down. From the front of the plane where the stewerdesS are sitting to the back of the plane I can hear people chuckling. I'm even having a hard time keeping my laughter in. She doesn't fight me or argue with me about having to sit back down in her seat. After all, the boys had gotten quiet and the cursing stopped.

Once buckled back in and chatter is startting back up amongst our fellow passangers, she apologizes to me for yelling at the boys "but they were making me so CRAZY mommy." The gentleman next to us looks over and tells her it's okay, "you were just telling them what the rest of us were thinking."

Okay, I think, at least that wasn't that bad, not that embarassing. If that's the worst she's gonna do on this trip then I've got it made. Oh boy did she prove me wrong!

On our last flight she was pretty mellow but working up to getting her second wind of energy. We board the plane, buckle up and take off. Unfortunately, we had been seated by a man that obviously dispises childen and let us know by the dirty looks and his "I can't believe this" huff. Behind all the seats on the head rest, we have individual TVs and you can purchase movies or satalight channels. I let her pick a movie and plug in the headphones for her in hopes that she'll maybe fall asleep for the end of the trip or at least be content in something other than mommy being her source of entertainment. So far so good.

Completely relaxed for once during our trip, I start to doze a little. After all, we've been on the move for almost 10 hours at this point. My precious little angel who was being so polite, announces to the flight at the top of her lungs courtasy of her headphones being to loud for her to hear her own voice, that she has farted. The fart however was silent but very much deadly! It permiated the whole plane within a matter of about a minute. I didn't know what to do except laugh. I wanted to leave that very moment but I couldn't and didn't dare turn to look at anyone and aknowledge my child's horrific faltulance. Everyone on the plane wanted to open a window but couldn't and everyone knew that it was MY kid.

For the remainder of the flight, no one said a word to me. I have never been so happy for a plane to land and that I would hopefully never see any of those people again.
