Many people who are opposed to these kinds of hormonal medicines, fail to recognize that there are many many women out there now, who live normal healthy lives without periods and even without a uterus or ovaries. At a certain point (different for each woman) women cease to have periods once their supply of viable eggs is exhausted. This is menopause. Yes there are many hormonal changes that go on within a woman's body at this time, however the majority of women go on to live for around another 30 years! All without periods. In cases of cancer, endemetriosis or cysts for example, some or all of a womans reproductive system may be removed, these women can and do still go on to lead normal healthy lives without periods.

There are other articles within this debate that suggest that menstruation is a cleansing process for the body like bloodletting to remove toxins. This is entirely unfounded. Not only does the vagina maintain a natural healthy balance of coexisting bacteria and yeasts but a woman for example during pregnancy does not bleed for approximately 9 months. These pills essentially trick a woman's body into believing it is pregnant, therefore not releasing eggs, and not building a new uterine lining each month. Additionally, what builds up on the uterine wall is intended to be the placenta and future life source for a baby, it is not filled with toxins, you have organs like kidneys for that. Men do not need a method of bloodletting to cleanse themselves because they too have kidneys.

For many women, periods are more than just painful they are debilitating. Things like PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) can make periods extremely heavy, cause mood changes and severe cramping among other things. This is a result of the body's response to the sudden drop in progesterone and estrogen to begin the process of menstruation. The unpleasant symptoms of PMS are because a woman is going into hormonal withdrawal. Similar to a drug withdrawal, this sudden hormonal drop puts a woman's body into a state of shock. On the this pill and after menopause progesterone stays at elevated levels in the body, avoiding these monthly hormonal crashes and the side effects.

Periods are physically taxing on the body. Alot of energy goes each month into building a uterine lining to ready it for an egg. To only have the menses passed and the process to start all over again. Seems plenty wasteful to me, when its sole purpose is to be a life source after implantation to a fertilized egg.

Lastly, and this is the clincher. Not only do these pills relieve symptoms of PMS and PMDD, they prevent PREGNANCY. If you aren't trying to get pregnant you don't really need to have your uterine lined for implantation of an egg, do you now? As an added side bonus, many of these pills clear up your skin. As far as pregnancy is concerned, I won't even delve into the detrimental emotional affects of unwanted pregnancies or aborted pregnancies. However prevention is the best course of action, this pill does that!
