Poetry: Autumn

by Kim Babcock

Created on: October 23, 2008

Copper, jade, bronze, and silver,
Shades of autumn flora quiver.
Appealing landscape imbues our sleep,
For sunset welcomes an earlier retreat.

Children bustle, attire pristine~
No threadbare holes nor clothes unclean.
Pencils sharpened, notebooks ready,
Nervous smiles and hands unsteady.

Pools are drained and grilles are stowed
Relieved grins borne of lawns last mowed,..
Satire hands down the new snow shovels,
As grimace replaces the smirks by double.

Golf clubs and roller blades stashed away
Hibernating in closets til an official summer day.
Snowboards and skis, carefully waxed and polished,
Whilst tattered skateboards are brusquely demolished.

Hiking boots, strapped on, for a final climb,
To the top of the peak to observe the sublime.
For the valley below, a leafed canopy encompass,
Like impressionist paints on a luminous canvas.
