Poetry: The masks we wear

by Kim Babcock

Created on: October 23, 2008

Enterprise-mogul, the unpopular Bill Gates,

Smoothes his furled brow as he contemplates.

Why does such infamy precede noble deeds?

My legacy's scorned, despite humane pleads.'

They say I'm conceited, a little too vain.

Perhaps that's what caused this unusual rain?

Their attitude's not justified to pelt such debris,

Which mars the terse sheen in my silk Armani.

My conduct is branded before I expound,

"No company's perfect, no product is sound.

My developers have tried to weed out mistakes,

But I'll chain them to desks, if that's what it takes!"

The truth, be it known, is overtly begrudged,..

MS Software's wrapped up with chocolate-filled bugs.

These narcissistic intentions are not hard to conceal,

Whilst his pecuniary motives are amply revealed.

A mask cannot alter the facial veracity,

Despite generous bribes and counterfeit charity.

For when has an empire truly survived

When its' sovereignty endorses a need for disguise?
