Tips for homemade food gifts

The only thing better than receiving homemade food gifts is giving them. Nothing shows someone that you care more than when you take time to make them a homemade gift. All it takes is some creative thinking. Here are some tips to get you going.

First decide who you are going to make the homemade food gift for. Then with that person in mind you can choose what kind of food gift that you're going to make them. Think about what kind of foods they like and what you are good at making. Some ideas for great food gifts are: brownies, cookies, candies, muffins, cakes, breads, pies, lasagna, stuffed shells, macaroni and cheese, jams and jellies.

Presentation is equally as important as your choice in food so don't skimp here. Get some pretty cellophane and/or tissue paper and wrap your food item up like you see displayed in stores. Tie it together with a pretty ribbon and it becomes a beautiful gift. You can also tie things on the ribbon like a spatula, the recipe, an ornament, a small stuffed animal or an assortment of other small items that the receiver may enjoy.

Another way to present your homemade food gift is in a pretty basket. There are many different shapes and sizes. Just check out your local craft store or the dollar store for a size that suits your gift. Put your beautifully wrapped food into the basket and top it with a pretty bow. You can also line the basket with some material or drape it over the edges. Nice and easy.

There are also clear cellophane bags of assorted colors and sizes. These make for a very simple way to present your food gift. Just add some ribbon, or raffia, and you have an instant gift. Another great bag idea is to get decorative lunch style bags from a craft, party or card store and neatly fold over the top. Then punch two holes with a hole puncher and thread the ribbon through the holes and tie into a bow. Looks professional.

Here's the best part, giving the homemade food gift to that special person you made it for. You can either give it to them in person and see the delight on their face or you can leave it at their doorstep for a nice surprise when they return home. Either way, they will be happy that you took the time to make them a delicious homemade food gift.
