Testimonies: Why I am so grateful for my parents

Why I am so grateful for my parents:

The Bible says to Honor thy Father and thy Mother, that thy days may be long upon the earth. That is the first commandment with promise. At the age of 61 I don't know how long my days will be upon this earth, however I know of no one on this earth that I honor more than my parents.

My mother is 86 years old, and my father went home to be with the Lord in 2000 at the age of 78 years, and why I am grateful for my parents. There would be no words in Webster nor Britannica that could adequately depict my gratitude for my parents.

I, of all people have been most blessed, not with parents who were wealthy by the worlds standards, but from the standards of God, "They were rich."

I am grateful that when God instructed the parent from his word, "to train up a child in the way he should go, so when they are old they would not depart from it, my parents obey that command. My parents taught by example. Children listen more intently to what you do, than what you say. I watched over and over by example, how my parents taught their children to love their neighbor, when they would share our meager means with our neighbor so they wouldn't go hungry.

One particular incident I will never forget, and I shared this recently with the children I teach at church, as the tears streamed down my face. I told them about a little neighbor boy, whose father was dead and his mother had deserted the family, and his two older sisters were in charge of the family with no means of support, and each had a young baby.

It was a Sunday morning and Mother was cooking for a homecoming at church, and I was her ten-year-old assistant. This young neighbor boy came daily to get milk for his sisters babies, This boy would come just after milking time, my mother would have the mild strained and in the fridge waiting for him twice daily.

Mothers had made several cream pies for the church dinner, cooling on the kitchen table. Not only were the pies beautiful to look at, Mother's pies were delicious to the taste. I well remember seeing the young boy standing their looking at those warm pies. Mothers called his name, asking if he'd like a piece of pie, he responded with, "Miss Back that is for your church dinner," Mother said Henry, "you may have all the pie you want, the church people can have what's left, and if there's none left, then, that's okay too. He ate two very large pieces of chocolate pie, and said, "Miss Back that's the best pie I ever ate. Mothers then asked the young
