Muslims or non-Muslims, Racial Profiling is a Dangerous Game
Because penalties for those accused of terrorism are high, profiling and subjecting others to harsh treatment only because they are or are suspected to be Muslims is dangerous. The problem of profiling is that it lumps everyone in one bag, essentially stripping individuals of their own identity. Not every Muslim is a terrorist. It is also important to not that there are many non-Muslims who are terrorists! Look in your own backyard! Before we leave your backyard, I would request that we inspect McVeigh's time line together. What was Muslim about him?
As a reader, how could you possibly know that the very person tooting the horn, pointing to others and labeling them as terrorists is not himself or herself a terrorist? State's records have names of non-Muslim people who have been implicated in terrorist activity. This serves to show that terrorism is not an act perpetrated by one specific kind of person. Assigning a certain behavior to an entire group of people is illogical. You do something wrong: you, not the group should be held accountable for it. Wasn't there a time when if your herd of cattle crossed the land boundaries into my property and grazed on my fields that my family would go on rampage after yours?
How is that any different from chasing after every woman in a sari, a man in a turban, a man in a loin cloth, a woman speaking Arabic, a man who looks Middle Eastern, or any other likely Muslim association? Then you wonder why the country is spending a gazillion dollars on nebulous anti-terrorist profiles? And why there are so many questions about our education system here in America? We are teaching students how to dig for information. What has this system to do with terrrorism?
Ask any professional about funding a research project. First you must have a reason for your research project. Your project shows how you intend to respond to the SPECIFIC questions you want to know the answers to. Without a clear, well-defined systematic approach about how you intend to embark on your research, you are most likely not going to receive funding for the project. And you shouldn't. Now what does misguided research have to do with racial profiling Muslims in America? It has everything to do with it. Let me explain.
Racial profiling of Muslims in America is a project allegedly intended to lead to terrorist suspects. There are many Muslims in America. If you consider these your samples, now what do you do?
