How to catch a man using Hungarian Chicken Paprikach (Paprikas). Do you remember Zsa-Zsa Gabor ? She was such a beautiful and glamorous movie star, a blonde bombshell of Hungarian decent. Often on talk shows of that era she could be found chatting with the host, talking mostly about men. How to get a man, how to make a man happy or how to keep a man. It was on one such talk show that I heard her talk about feeding the man you in your life Hungarian Chicken Paprikach.
So, you guessed it, I found a recipe, prepared and served it to the man of my dreams. Yep it worked, I got the man! Here you will find that recipe for catching a man, er this fantastic chicken entree.
Traditionally Chicken Paprikach is made using the dark meat pieces of a chicken, thighs and drumsticks, making the chicken in this dish tender and full of flavor. Zsa-Zsa insisted that any "voman" preparing this recipe must use only real Hungarian HOT paprika, she said, "Its suppose to be ver-r-ry HOT and spicy Dah-lin-gs, feed him this and you'll get your-rr man!"
-Hungarian Chicken Paprikach (Paprikas)
Ingredients:
3 lbs. chicken leg pieces (thigh and leg sections)
1 large onion, diced
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. hot paprika, divided
1 tsp. sweet paprika
1 tsp. minced garlic
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 sour cream
1 1/2+ cups chicken stock, (divide out 1/2 cup)
2 tbsp. all purpose flour
Additional 1/2 cup chicken stock or water
Directions:
Add 1/2 cup chicken stock, garlic and 1/2 tbsp. hot paprika to a gallon sized zip-lock bag, add chicken and squeeze bag to cover all. Set in refrigerator and allow to marinate for 2 hours.
Remove chicken from bag, discard marinade. Season chicken with salt and pepper, dredge in flour.
Add olive oil to a large deep skillet or chicken frying pan, bring over medium high heat until oil is slightly smoking. Add chicken pieces carefully, brown on both sides. Remove chicken from skillet, sprinkle with sweet paprika. Keep hot, reserve.
In same large skillet add onions, saute until tender. Push onions to one side of skillet, return chicken to skillet, sprinkle with remaining hot paprika. Add remaining chicken stock to skillet. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to simmer.
Simmer chicken for 1 1/2 hours. Make sure it doesn't cook dry. Add stock as necessary, 1/4 cup at a time; only if needed.
When chicken is cooked through and juices run clear remove from heat. Remove chicken pieces, momentarily.
Combine 2 tbsp. flour with 1/2 cup chicken stock, whisk to combine, add to skillet, bring to a boil over low heat. Add sour cream and stir well. Return chicken pieces to skillet, baste with sauce, keep hot.
Serve this delicious Chicken Paprikach over egg noodles, soft dumplings or fluffy mashed potatoes.
This recipe is very comfortable cooked in a slow cooker or crock pot. After browning chicken and sauting onions, add all ingredients except sour cream into slow cooker, stir to combine. Add sour cream just before serving.
Even if you already have the man of your dreams, try this recipe for chicken Paprikach, he will love it! This version is great, simple to cook and sure to win the prize for good cooking!
