Yes, our children should not only know God, but have a life long relationship with Him so they can teach their children. Our society is very different today with so many families that are not in a relationship with the Lord then it was in the past. The violence, the immorality, the vengeance, and the lack of respect is a direct reflection on what our nation and world are without God.
In the past 50 years our country has went from eating together, staying together, and worshipping together to children grabbing their own meals, staying home alone, and telling their parents and teachers off. Today the youth of our nation is getting into fights, having sex with many partners before marriage, and not caring about what happens to themselves or the people around them. In the past when parents took their children to church and showed them what loving and serving the Lord was, the children respected them and learned to work hard to support themselves and not get a free hand out or to rely on someone else to support them as adults. There were much less unplanned teenage pregnancies. You could not tell your dad "no" and then get patted on the back. When our children knew God, kids worked things out instead of beating one another up or killing one another. With God in their lives children have a moral standard to live by and they take pride in themselves and have respect for the people around them. When children have God in their lives, they have a peace that knowing they can get through anything with His help. "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." (Luke 18:27)
Adults need to teach our children that with God all things are possible. With God's guidance they do not have to settle and that they can do anything they want. With God, children know that saving yourself for marriage is the right thing to do, and that it could possibly be the cure for sexually transmitted diseases. If a child knows God and they are struggling with something they know that they can turn to Him for help and not to resort to other things that will get them into trouble.
We have a responsibility to teach our children about God and to help our nation get back to loving one another and being the best nation in the world. God has been taken out of many areas in our country and there are more problems then ever before. Our children need to know God, so they have what so many of our grandparents and parents had. They need to know that God is in their life when things are good and when things are bad. People get so lost in the all mighty dollar that they forget who got them there and it is our job to make sure our children know why they got here and how they have what they have.
