Important issues to consider in the 2008 Presidential election

by Linda Zirion

Created on: October 21, 2008

I have been so undecided!

Obama, a true speech giver - I could listen to him talk forever. He truly does sound confident, he has a beautiful family, and he puts the change message out so well, I think his image would be so good for America.

McCain, a true hero, when he talks I can feel that he truly loves America! I can feel more by his body language than his words that he believes in his convictions, and he has been the maverick for America whenever he a republican has gone against his party. His beautiful wife Cindy who has done so much expecially for children is really inspiring.

The only way for me to resolve this is to rely on the past. I do believe that both these men have only the best intentions for the United States of America, but who can I believe in? Now remember I'm relying on issues that are and were important to me.

McCain, when the vote came up to support our troops in Iraq, McCain stated that he would vote for the bill unless it had a time table, well it had a time table so he voted against it a vote I'm sure he ached over. Obama, said he was for supporting our troops and would vote for the bill, he too voted against it. I never understood why.

Obama is very much against the war in Iraq and has been since the beginning. I felt in the beginning that Iraq did have WMD, that they were a major concern for America, and that their people were being treated intolerably, as well as did most of the Nation as well as other countries. McCain of course was for the invasion. I remember him saying we would be greeted as liberators! Shortly after we invaded I remember the Husain statue falling and the Iraqi people cheering, but John McCain stating we need more troops. I thought gosh, we just won, why send more of our men? Well in hine sight he was right.

Pork barrel spending, we know that today that they both profess to be against any pork barrel spending. Now lets look at history. We know that Obama voted for millions of pork for the state that he represented. Back to the present, McCain wants to freeze government spending except for the necessities, take a hatchet to what's not working, and in doing so be able to get the budget under control. He says that in the future he will veto any bill no matter how good if it has pork in it. Now I believe that to be change! Obama wants to use a scalpel? I don't even know what that means. Shave a little here and there? Hmm.

Whoever is our next President, who they pick to surround themselves with is very important to me. Their
