Poetry: Dear love

Dear Lover

When our eyes first met

I never thought we could be together

I will never forget

How it felt like I knew you forever

Yet I was with another man

Who abused me and gave me a baby

I wasn't married, but I gave him my hand

As he gripped and wouldn't let me go, I wished for God to save me

My daughter was my motivation to live, she was my world

So for her, I tried to make it work

Her dad beat me, choked me, cheated, and yelled in front of my girl

I needed to end the hurt

I prayed for God to give me to another

You used me, but I loved hugging you

I looked into your eyes and wanted to be your lover

I wanted you to love me too

I knew you were not the type to hurt me

You began to set me free

I am thankful we are in each others arms

With a child of our own and my first daughter away from harm

God listened to my prayers and always knew me best

I am glad to have you next to me every night when it's time to rest
