Children outgrow their clothes so quickly that most of us just cannot afford new clothes from trendy children's stores. That doesn't mean your children need go around in cheap clothing from discount stores that tear easily and shirnk or stretch out of shape.
It's possible to dress your child in good quality clothing very inexpensively. The clothes may not be brand new, but sometimes they are. Small children's clothes do not wear out.
The first place to look are rumage sales. Rummage sales are abundant in the spring, summer, and fall. Check the local newspaper and you'll find tons of sales with maps to guide you. In the spring, especially, whole towns or suburbs have rummage sales. My friend and I went to one small town where they had 180 rummage sales that day. We only were able to hit 21 and had tons of nice quality baby and children's clothing. Often the newer sections of town house young families so you don't waste a lot of time driving around. If you don't have a lot of time, check out the group rummage sales put on by churches, dance groups, PTA' s, etc. You will find a lot of variety in all sizes and conditions.
Another great outlet are the Goodwill Stores. Some cities have Goodwill stores that have huge bins of clothing all thrown together. You pay by the pound. My friend and I got two huge garbage bags of clothes for twenty dollars. It takes time and effort to sort through the bins, but the results are unbelievable. You'd be surprised how many new clothes with tags you find and clothes for children that were only worn once. Other Goodwill Stores have children's sections and it takes time to sort through all the clothes, but very worth it.
Other thrift stores are also available. You never know what treasures you'll unearth.
Off season sales provide good deals, but you'll probably need to buy in a larger size so the seasons and the size match. If you know the sex of the baby before it is born, that is a good time to go shopping. Don't waste your money on the small sizesbecause you will receive a ton of small size shower and baby gifts.
E bay is also a good source if you don't have the time or energy to drive around. Remember the postage and be sure of the sizes.
When looking for used children's clothing always check the tops and bibs for stains and the pants for worn knees and butts.Your child's clothes don't need to be cheap, but they can be inexpensive.
