Kate is about to marry the man of her dreams, Henry and all is going okay on the day of their wedding until Kate is killed by a falling angel ice sculpture. A year later, Henry isn't moving on so his sister Chloe takes him to see psychic Ashley. But when Ashley and Henry become attracted to each other, Kate begins to haunt Ashley, the only one who can see and hear Kate, from the beyond as an angel and tries to stop them getting together. Can she split the pair up, or will she save Henry from more heartache?
All through February this year, you couldn't get away from the film being advertised on television, it was on every channel so you just couldn't miss it. It was marketed as a comedy so when I started watching it, I was hoping for a lot of laughs led by a good cast who have had some big successes in the comedy genre, but despite the odd laugh here and there, the whole thing left me a bit cold to be honest.
This is one of Eva Longoria Parker's first major solo movie efforts since finding worldwide fame in hit American TV show Desperate Housewives as Gabrielle. It's a pretty fluffy film, nothing that is going to tax Ms Longoria terribly, and doesn't really break away from the comedy mold she has been in thus far. Although I find her a good actress in Desperate Housewives, her performance in this was quite poor to tell you the truth.
She opened the film as neurotic bride-to-be Kate, and annoyed me immediately, which didn't bode well and her performance was equally weak through the rest of the film. She didn't have much on-screen chemistry with her co-stars Bell and Rudd, and I felt that she just didn't deliver a great performance at all. On the other hand, Paul Rudd who played her fiance Henry was fantastic, with deadpan comedy delivered perfectly and a real 'oompf' put into the role which made him incredibly enjoyable to watch for me.
I haven't seen Lake Bell who plays psychic Ashley in anything before but she did relatively well with a somewhat limited role. Her interactions with Longoria were pretty dire and the two had no chemistry but she did work well with Jason Biggs, her catering partner Dan in another good performance, and also Paul Rudd.
However, the strangest thing about the film was despite the lead actress being billed as Eva Longoria, she had a real minimal role in the film and I bet her on-screen time was less than around 30 minutes overall! I find this somewhat ridiculous and it seems that the film is really betting on her name getting in the viewers
