People v Government

IN MY OPINION:

First of all, I believe that every community of the 21st Century should and must have a government. Without a government, it would be survivial of the fittest at its best. Government is the term given to the political authority composed up of human beings that are responsible for officially directing the affairs, policies, economy, and fullfilling the needs of the people of the United States of America, including each state. In our country, theoretically, it is a government of the people, for the people, and by the people.

We surrender our power to those we elect to office via our right to vote. We invest our power in politicians in return for the public welfare, physical, and economic security, both domestic and foreign. In theory, the power of the people ultimately rules, but in reality, the government rules until change is enforced by polititcal action of the voters.

There is another reality we have to recognize in America. That is the power of money or of wealth. Whoever has it can buy the government, can control the ways and means of many things, and can even pay for the laws that create adversity between the people and government! The power of money creates the "us against it" concept of our government in our society to the point that we cannot live with it and we cannot live without it.

Laws are made by political representatives of the people in the interest of getting power or money. An example of what I mean is the seat belt law. Do you think that the insurance companies care about my front teeth or my forehead if I get into an accident. Hell no! The insurance companies care mainly about the money they are going to save by getting the lawmakers, those who represent the voters, to make laws in favor of the insurance company. The result: another "us against it" between people and the government.

The government can become oppressive in the interest of national security, in exigent circustances, and any other reason or excuse, if not checked by the law. If it weren't for our Bill of Rights in the U. S. Constitution, we would most likely be a police state and at the mercy of those in power. Thank God for Bill of Rights and attorneys and judges that make it work. The Bill of Rights is like the referee that calls a fight. It keeps the police honorable, not honest, but honorable, which means that they have to respect individual freedoms and rights in the constant battle between the government and the people.

In the final analysis, it is the people involved in the government that are against the people, not the structure called "the government.
