Spring is a time to celebrate awakenings; the new birth of baby farm animals, the shooting buds of flower bulbs left dormant through the chilliest months of the year, and fresh crisp air that can now sweep through windows thrown open to welcome in the new season. With the refreshing changes taking place all around, it's no surprise that you may be ready to. Caught up in the excitement of this season, you may find yourself yearning to also transform your home in celebration of the coming months. But don't worry; it's not as hard as you might think! Here are a few simple ideas to ring in the pleasures of spring.
Bring the Outdoors In!
Grab a pair of shears or scissors and head outside to scavange. Cuttings from bushes or trees and fresh flowers are two ways to enjoy the beauty of nature in the comfort of your home. A vase of fresh flowers or blooming branches from a blossoming tree smell sweet and are a proven way to lift the spirits. Place multiple clusters around your home in locations you will see them every day- the kitchen, living room, entry way, and even leave a few blossoms floating in water on a bathroom counter are an immediate mood-booster. Just be careful to avoid pollen-laden blossoms that can irritate the allergies of household members. The last thing you want is to spread pollen particles throughout your living space.
Switch Out Linens
Long chilly nights curled under those thick comforters are coming to an end. The warmth of down comforters and heavy fabrics will soon leave you sweating and sleepless. Instead, it's time to switch heavy quilts and sheets for more breathable bedding. Cotton sheets and light blankets are a much better choice. But before you re-make the beds, try hanging the new bedding outside in the sun for a natural freshness you can curl up under at night.
Candles
Entice your sense of smell with the allure of fresh-scented candles. Transform the stale air that's been closed up all winter long into a more pleasant scent. Some springtime favorites include vanilla, light floral scents, and beach or night aromas. Place the candles in strategic locations throughout your home and light them regularly to freshen the air. But always remember that candles can be fire hazards, so never leave a candle burning unattended.
Capture Spring Moments
A fun weekend outing for the family is visiting baby animals on the farm. Many areas have locations for farm animal encounters that are open to the public. Check the local paper and community news publications for local listings. When you go, be sure to bring your camera to capture intimate moments of the kids cuddling baby chicks, squealing with laughter at the baby goats, and fawning over frolicking lambs. These keepsakes can be put on the fridge or kept as framed reminders of the springtime memories you've created.
It's time to take advantage of the longer days by packing in spring festivities. It's time to prep the house, get outside and don't forget to involve the family! After those grueling long winter months, you certainly deserve it. Congratulations... it's spring!
