I believe that selfishness is a driving force behind any wrongdoing. Sometimes, it goes beyond limit to the point of acquiring happiness at the cost of another's pain.
Rape is the worst vicious attack that anyone may encounter. There could be many different psychological reasons that may turn someone into a rapist, but whatever the analysis could be, I consider rape as the most animalistic deed which is driven by selfish needs.
In human society, sex is a final outcome of love, intimacy, and affection which is developed after two individuals win each other's heart. Generally, sex is correlated with love, intimacy, affection, and tenderness. While this is true for most of us, and yet, there are individuals out there who satisfy their sexual desire by dehumanizing, and tearing down a human like them. In their world, sex is correlated with violence, viciousness, and selfishness.
When someone jumps all over another human and suddenly engages in sexual act without any consent, that is crossing the line, and draws a parallel with some animals' characteristics.
When, I was a child, we used to have a chicken coop in our backyard which sometimes was a center of my attention, one day, I saw one chicken, come swinging and knocked the other chicken down by attacking it with its beak, then mounted itself atop of it. As I tried to separate them, an elderly lady who was watching me from a distance called my name, and asked me to stop intervening but she never gave me further explanation, as I was too young to understand sexuality. At that time, I was puzzled beyond belief, and thought it was mean, but as I grew older, I understood better.
While this could be normal for chickens, their intelligence level has no comparison with ours, it's unbelievable to see such kind of action in human society. I just can't wrap my mind around this.
Rapists are very capable of hiding their evil deeds by knowing where and when to launch their vicious attack, sometimes killing their victims, and still get excused for pleading psychological problems, insanity, mental disorder...etc, and this may lead us to question- how someone so strategic in their act, be dumb enough to commit such a crime and furthermore, be clever enough to hide it?
I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist to understand and evaluate how their mind works, but I know that all rapists have one character in common - cowards. They all choose their victim, time, and place, bottom line, they have "chicken" personality.
How can we live fearlessly and maintain our safety? Airing warnings and precautions whenever a sex offender is released from jail is not enough. While rape is identified as a serious crime, it's not yet fully challenged. Our justice system should be tougher against rapists to protect innocent citizens.
