Poetry: To get to you

by Corri Pierce

If I walked a thousand miles

and swam across the sea

just to find you-to see you once more

what would you say to me?

If I flew across the globe

and drove through rain and wind and snow

just to look deep into your eyes

how would you feel about that, Joe?

And if I walked up to you, tired and weak

burnt from the blazing desert sun

after all those mountains I climbed to finally reach you

would you once again turn and run?

If I gave up all I had just to find you

would you still make me feel so small?

would you say it was pointless- my loss?

would you even speak to me at all?

If it makes you happy by avoiding me

that's okay- but absence makes the heart grow fonder

if you plan on breaking my heart- just know

that which doth not kill me makes me stronger

I once promised you that I'd give me all

to spend just one more day with you

I'd go to the ends of the earth for you

what made you think it wasn't true?

I really don't know what you would say

I can't tell how you'd react, or what you would do

if I finally found you- but I look forward to that day

And just so you know, I am on my way.
