Slicethepie.com is an innovative site that gives anyone the opportunity to have their own slice of the music market. Whether you are are an artist, fan or an investor Slice the Pie has whatever you need to get involved.
The mission of Slicethepie.com is to utilise the public's opinion, judgement and money to identify and finance the best unsigned artists wherever they are from in the world.
There are three main roles for members of the site, Artists, Scouts and Traders/investors. You can choose to do any combination of these roles at any time.
The Artists sign up with 3 original tracks and enter a basic profile. The artists then chose an Arena to enter which can be Genre specific or open to All Genres.
Each track in the Arena is then listened to, reviewed and rated about 120 times. The 15 to 20 artists with the best scores are moved through to a final round called a Showcase. The Showcase allows all members to listen to all the successful artists tracks. The members can then vote for just one artist to go through to financing. There is an option on voting which the member can indicate whether they would finance/invest if the artist is successful. The Artists with the most votes gets 15,000 guaranteed. If other artists get enough votes and indications of support then they will too go through for financing. Artists who get through to financing then have 6 weeks to get the necessary backing from fans and members of the site.
Bands with a proven fan base can apply to go straight to financing.
Once the Artists have the 15,000 backing then Slice the Pie will release it to the artist to cover recording and promotional fees.
Music fans can become A&R Scouts for Slice the Pie by reviewing the tracks that the artists have submitted. To become a Scout you simply enter the Scout Room and review the music available. You have to listen to 60 seconds of each track before you may begin typing your review and you must rate the track as you feel others would rate it. This is may seem strange but it's done to help reduce erratic scoring. The closer you are to predicting other peoples scores moves you up the Scout ranking system. For each review, you submit you actually earn real money. Initial rates are low but as you progress then payments increase. To get your money you simply request payment to Paypal. 5 is the minimum you can request but it does not take long to earn this small amount.
Whilst the track is being reviewed, the artist's identity is kept secret. Once the
