Poetry: Missing a loved one

by Tara Jacoby

Created on: October 18, 2008

I thought of you today.

I looked, but you were gone.

How could I expect you to stay?

The fault was mine all along.

Empty promises, broken plans.

Intention fell to pieces, everything went wrong.

I just wanted to see your face, to clasp your hands.

In desperation, I hurry to reduce an endless line.

With every effort, answering all the demands.

Just to see that I've run out of time.

The wait, you could not withstand.

The despair is mine.

Ever awaiting the sound of your voice.

Two uneven time frames cannot combine.

It's nobody's choice.

This misguided wish wasn't mine.

Missing you was never calculated in my plan.

Ever waiting to align.

One broken heart, one empty hand.

Grieving you was never my wish.

Tens of minutes overlap our time span.

One misguided hope becomes my anguish.

What good has come from this transition?

Missing my closest friend, deems hellish.

Banished from my familiarity, I'm broken.

Without time for the one I most cherish.
