A modem is a piece of equipment used to connect you to the world wide web. Usually you receive a modem from the company that you have ordered broadband Internet service from. The modem is simple to connect it provides more than one way to get its job done. It connects from your main phone jack and to your computer by either the ethernet cable or the usb cable. By personal experience, I prefer the usb connection.
Sometimes your modem can cause a number of problems that are simple enough for you to fix with out calling tech support. The main issue that users face is improper connections. This can be prevented if you first follow the instructions and download modem usage information. When power outages occur your modem can be reset unintentionally, if this happens then you should call your internet provider to receive new codes to reprogram your modem.
One of the first problems I had experienced with my modem was that the Ethernet connection would not allow Internet access. Sometimes this can happen if your computer Ethernet jack is old and out of order. Replacement with a new adaptor may be necessary. In other cases your usb connection my give you troubles. Most of the time it is due to improperly installed information to your computer. Other times it could be that your cord shorted out, or you need to use a different usb port. Most providers would than suggest to reinsert the installation information to clear the problem. The installation disc also checks to ensure there are not problems with line jack equipment.
After clearing that the Internet connection line is fine, and the connections are plugged in right sometimes the smartest people forget to simply cut the modem on. If there still is no power did you plug it in, or is the plug connected to the back of the modem properly. Simple mistakes and human nature are the main cause of connection problems so be careful to read all instructions when installing a modem to your computer. If there are any doubts and questions you should always take a moment to call the provided numbers for help. Proper preparation and step by step checking are always beneficial. Learning the modem and the parts it came with will help prevent some situations from arising. Also making sure to keep your modem and computer updated can prevent certain problems from happening. In the long run when all else fails turn to tech support for help.
