The secret of downsizing: Have a plan

Downsizing the phace which you call home simplifies life, although the process which takes you there is not always so easy. it is hard to know which things you possess are important or which will fit into your new life without a plan. This article is written with you in mind, helping you to go forward with a clear mind, and clear plan. This means never looking back, but getting in place a plan which include the following elements of thought to make that transition easier. Your new home may be smaller, though it is what you place within that home, and how it is presented which determines how cramped your lifestyle is. By planning, you can avoid those pitfalls which present themselves and organize your new life in a simpler manner.

Furnishings.

One of the first things which has to be downsized is furniture. Place large furniture in a small space, and it gives the impression of cramping your lifestyle. A small bedroom is dwarfed by a huge bed, and with the marketplace offering various sizes, downsizing is actually easier than you think. For example, instead of buying a king sized bed, downsize to a small double, and you get the same sleeping area, but less cramped.

Similarly with living rooms, a huge sofa takes up so much space. Replace this with smaller items like a cottage suite and you get a completely new look with furnishings to fit that look and not impede your lifestyle. This really does matter. Downsizing dining furniture was easy, and finding a table which can be smaller when in general day to day use, but expanded for special occasions is a great compromise, since much of the space that huge table takes up is wasted space.

Lighting.

Look carefully at the lightings in the rooms. This makes a lot of difference to perception. If a room is highly lighted, it looks larger and can be stunning even if your home is small. Using lights to help to make a room look taller, or indeed wider is possible with discreet wall lights, or standard lamps placed at positions which flatter the size of the room.

Measuring.

If you get a chance before buying new furnishings to measure up your new home, this gives you a much clearer idea of what will fit comfortably within the new space. Here, I chalked out the size of furnishings to decide what stayed and what needed replacing, and was amazed at how much space this kind of measurement and forethought afforded me. I was able to look at measurements of different items
