Easy ways to give a spring look to your home

The sunny warm days of spring always seem to bring a new perspective on life. Why not bring some of that sunshine into your home? Here are a few easy ways to bring spring into your home.

1. Put away heavy winter throws or crocheted afghans. These tend to be hot, plus they look out of season. Store them away until next winter.

2. Create a clean, fresh look. Remove your decorative items. Replace them with white bowls, white pitchers or white vases. Put them on top of your hutch, above your kitchen cabinets or on the top of a book shelf. They will give your home an undated, streamlined look. White bowls, vases and pitchers can be found at thrift stores or at yard sales quite cheap. Plus these items will be within easy reach when you want to use them.

3. Purchase some silk spring flowers like daffodils, crocus, or tulips at a large department store. Put these flowers into a white vase for your kitchen table or coffee table. Instantly, you have the feel of spring in your home. They are easy to store for next year, too.

4. Of course, real flowers are the perfect touch for a spring look in your home. Purchase tulips or daffodils that can be transplanted in your garden after they begin to wilt. This way you have made an investment into your home and garden at the same time.

5. Store away your old decorative pillows and purchase some colorful decorative pillows for your sofa or chairs. Large department stores sell pillows at discount prices.

6. If your furniture is dark in color or worn looking find purchase some spring colored slip covers for your sofa and chairs. My mother-in-law mentioned that her mother always covered their sofas and chairs with white slip covers all spring and summer then removed the slip covers during the fall and winter. The result was less wear and tear on the furniture and a fresh new look each spring. Slip covers are easy to find in stores or online catalogues. They are also washable.

7. Find pictures and frames that are suited especially for springtime. I have a Norman Rockwell print that is called "Spring." I set in on a side table next to my silk daffodils every spring. I put the spring picture away once fall arrives. Hang your spring pictures in a prominent place to usher in the new season.

These seven easy ways to bring spring into your home will hopefully help create a wonderful warmth and sunshine for your family's enjoyment.
