High School Love
Waiting by the fountain in the place you said to meet,
I sat and watched patiently, water spilling on my feet.
First five, ten, then thirty minutes seem to rush on past,
The sun now fading slowly casting shadows on the grass.
It isn't very often I would take this kind of chance,
To meet a guy I met by simple wink or passing glance.
I'm feeling oh so stupid, very lonely and quite sad,
To know you aren't coming to this meeting that we had.
Gathering my tennis shoes, my coat and all my books,
I stumble cross the parking lot sad stares and glancing looks.
When up ahead through teared up eyes I see you standing tall,
Holding hands we walk and talk a couple throughout fall.

I know it won't be easy
Everyone has always told me

And I dwell now, upon those things which have passed
For what could have beenperhaps should have been
You were the sunshine
