Flight of the Blue Heron
At the end of a warm winters day, in a canal lined by seasonally stripped trees.
A Blue Heron is startled by my presence.
It takes flight..
Its' wings in a powerful thrust, expand as the tips touch down on
the sunlit water, striking it to form circles of ripples that
repeat and remain after it is already air bound...
I stand in awe, as it soars above with feet trailing behind.
The memory lingers longer than the moment..
It is then I realize I am holding my breath.
