The challenge with summer workouts is that it can be very hot outside, particularly in geographic areas that suffer from humidity coupled with extreme temperatures. Some people would rather sit in a lawn chair under an umbrella or relax in their air-conditioned dwelling with a cool beverage. Still, summer can have extra workout allure because the days are longer and people feel a greater sense of freedom. Therefore, summer is the time to shed some weight, get into a routine, and make fitness a priority. Here are a few ways to engage in some "hot" summer workouts.
The evening run
Running can be an especially hot activity, particularly when people run outside on the street or on a hot track. The summertime can be tough for running, unless people pick the correct time slots. In many ways, the evening run during the summer can be a pleasant experience. The air is generally more comfortable and the light is good, so an outdoor run can work out very well. Running through the neighborhood on a pleasant summer evening can be a very rewarding experience, particularly if it has been a hot day. People can also go for a brisk walk during the evening. This doesn't have the same cardiovascular impact as a run, but it can still be a solid fitness activity and a fun way to spend time with friends or family.
Get out and enjoy those sports!
There are so many fun sports that can be played during the summer, and those activities can be a great workout as well. These sports can include tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, softball, baseball, and soccer. Granted, they can be a bit sweaty during the heat of the day, but sometimes the competitiveness and the camaraderie of playing a sport can make people forget that they are working out. Unlike individual workouts, the game itself can distract from the fatigue of getting active.
Wild water
Finally, the summer can be enjoyed through water activities. Going to the community pool, hitting the ocean, or taking a swim in a local river or lake can be a refreshing way to exercise. Water activities can be great workouts, and they are often kinder to the body than the "wear and tear" of sports and certain workout activities. Granted, not all people have easy access to water, but many communities have pools, YMCA's, or workout clubs.
Summer can be a great time to work out. The weather is better, people feel more energetic, and the days provide more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. In addition, the summer is a great time to establish good habits that will carry over to the cooler seasons. So, get out and enjoy the summer months!
